How Long Do Kiwis Last?

You can’t hide kiwis in plain sight, their brown and hairy surface will give them away. Kiwis are a very wonderful fruit, their insides have a unique and sharp green color, adorned with tiny chewable seeds. The fruit has a slightly soft texture, when it’s mushy the color is usually darker.

When it comes to keeping kiwis the maintenance, plus how they were harvested and stored matters a lot. Larger ones with smooth surfaces that exclude bruises, blemishes, and scratches will keep better and healthier. If kiwis are unripe, they can be kept for a long while (up until they become ripe), but once they are ripe they should be consumed soon, as they are delicate fruits and their taste, texture, and flavor can change very fast. If they have cracks, injuries, or even molds on their body then they have spoilt or will spoil quickly.

What is the life span of a kiwi? Whole kiwis last 7-14 days on the counter, 7-21 days in the fridge, and 10-12 months in the freezer. While cut kiwis last 2-4 days on the counter, 4-7 days in the fridge, and 10-12 months in the freezer. You should note that this time frame applies to properly stored fruits alone, as kiwis do not come with a best before date, the date of purchase can be used as a measuring yard.

How do you know when a kiwi goes bad?

Storing food with proper safety and care will prevent food-related damage and hazard. And always make sure that you monitor the health status of any fruit before you consume it, as it may cause great risks to your system and health if it’s rotten.

You can tell that your kiwi has gone bad when the texture is extremely soft and mushy,  and with plenty of bruises. Most times, this signifies that the fruit is overripe. Also, kiwis do not smell, but if you perceive any odor that is out of place, the fruit is properly overripe. Lastly, if there seems to be the appearance of mold on the fruit, you probably shouldn’t eat it.

How long do kiwis last at room temperature?

Room temperature is not bad for storing fruits and food items, the only problem is that certain foods have short life spans and to keep them for longer than they can last, an ideal preservation method, particularly cold storage, must be used.

Kiwis can do their own time on the counter and in-room temperature, for whole kiwis they will last 7-14 days at room temperature and cut ones will last 2-4 days.

However to get this full-time span the fruit must be in a good state and the place of storage must be ideal (very hot spaces can make fruits become overripe very quickly), if there are many scars on a kiwis body, it probably won’t live up to this time.

How long do kiwis last in the fridge?

The fridge is one of the most popular methods of cold storage, it is an ideal place to keep food/fruits for prolonging their lifespan. Kiwis will do better in the fridge than on the kitchen counter. You can get extra days or weeks from them, plus their coolness will make them more refreshing and tasty and you won’t have to worry about thawing them.

When properly stored, whole kiwis will last 7-21 days in the fridge, which is about three weeks. While cut ones will last 4-7 days with proper storage. To store cut kiwis properly, you should keep them in an airtight container and ensure that they do not have water or moisture around them, in order not to attract bacteria.

Step 3: Place the tray in the freezer and freeze for a couple of hours, you should take the tray out when the fruits are frozen perfectly.

Step 4: After they are frozen take out the kiwis and transfer them into a paper bag, remove excess oxygen and continue to freeze them for as long as you like.

Frozen kiwis are best used while they are still frozen because once they thaw they become mushy and soft, so to prevent this, you can use them while they are still frozen.
